about

The Pan American Symphony Orchestra’s (PASO’s) new release brings you the best of nuevo tango recorded live in Washington, D.C. with a stellar lineup of talented tango soloists: Pablo Estigarribia, piano, Sami Merdinian, violin, Juancho Gomez, guitar, Javier Sanchez, bandoneón, Ahmed Alom, piano, Pedro Giraudo, Bass, and Sean Mahon, piano. The young Argentine Latin Grammy-winning pianist and composer, Pablo Estigarribia, performs his Tres Tangos Concertante, a story of his move from Buenos Aires to New York City in 2019. The first movement is inspired by traditional tangos and his home city. The second movement, Andante con moto, tells the love story of meeting his future wife. And the third movement, Allegro molto, depicts his love for New York City and American jazz. Latin Grammy winning composer and bassist, Pedro Giraudo, also joins PASO on this recording with two of his own compositions, Chicharrita and Con Creces, tangos with a contemporary sound blended with jazz and classical. And no nuevo tango recording is complete without Astor Piazzolla. PASO’s U.S. premier of Piazzolla’s 1979 composition, Concierto de Nacar in three movements was his biggest orchestration to date and this recording showcases Piazzolla’s signature rhythmic complexities. And live performances of Piazzolla’s Vardarito, Onda 9, and Soledad-Libertango demonstrate how at home PASO is performing Piazzolla’s music and how beautifully it carries on his legacy.
